About the Artist...
April Paige currently resides in Tampa, FL. She studied art formally at the Ringling School Of Art, studied privately though various courses, has painted in conjunction with other established artists and has developed many self-taught techniques.
April is known for her unique style, the simplicity of her paintings, as well as the drama of her color choices. Her backgrounds are used minimally as to not distract from the subject while her composition and unique perspectives are forefront. Her constant use of dark background colors make the subjects pop off the canvas. She is quoted as saying “ My goal is to bring something interesting to the viewer - a moment in life, a memory, a unique perspective, a laugh....something compelling.”
UNIQUE TAMPA HERITAGE
April has many ties to the cigar industry in Ybor City, Tampa, FL. April’s great grandmother was sent to work in the factories of Ybor after both parents had died of TB in Cuba. April is very proud of her local family history which includes cigar makers, lectors within the factories, and a great aunt who was a former Guava Queen.
“I express myself through my paintings. It brings me peace and joy. My curiosity in all that is around us drives me to push further. I am always searching for knowledge and truth to place on my canvas. I am constantly looking for life to share its lessons. The moments I have tried to capture have touched me personally in some way – from sensuality, to animals, to music, to spirituality. I look forward to seeing where this journey will take me. I hope that you enjoy my work.”
